Kylian Mbappé Honors PSG After UCL Victory

Now contracted with Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe paid respect to his previous team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) following their overwhelming 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.

Mbappe, who signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid last summer when his PSG contract expired, stays very loyal to his Parisian roots. Part of the team that lost the 2020 final to Bayern Munich, the 26-year-old forward turned PSG’s second all-time leading scorer before he left.

Mbappe expressed his delight for his former colleagues and the club even though he wasn on the pitch this time. Minutes following the last whistle, he uploaded a moving statement on Instagram:

“The great day has at last arrived, the triumph and the whole club’s approach. Thanks. Mbappé created.

Following the historic victory, PSG head coach Luis Enrique was questioned on Mbappe. He praised the striker’s contributions to the team and underlined that although they wanted him back-off, they valued his choice to move on.

Although we would have dearly liked to have him, his choice was one we also embraced. The coach has to persuade his athletes that it is doable. We have demonstrated that our stars depend on the team rather than in the other way. We have to consider the Club World Cup and work on ourselves, Enrique remarked.

PSG has delivered the Champions League championship long dreamed of following coming agonizingly close in 2020 under Qatari ownership.

Originally almost out in the group stage earlier this season, the French champs turned their campaign around in amazing style.

With former Inter defender Achraf Hakimi and 19-year-old midfielder Désiré Doué scored twice in the first twenty minutes, PSG had a commanding display against Inter Milan.

Doué scored once more in the 63rd minute; goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 73rd and substitute Senny Mayulu in the 87th helped to guarantee the largest winning margin in Champions League final history.

Before kickoff, Inter Milan supporters tried to mobilize their club by chanting their anthem “There’s Only Inter Milan,” but the Italian side fell short in matching PSG’s fervor.

PSG ran the game with fluid passes and continuous movement. Vitinha threading a perfect ball to Doué inside the box in the 12th minute set their opening goal. Ousmane Dembele later gave a defense-splitting pass from deep in his own half to set up Kvaratskhelia, who coolly finished past Yann Sommer.

Mayulu slanted home from close range following an assist from Bradley Barcola, sending PSG supporters into raptures as the last whistle blew.
