Is Ronaldo Dominating Over Al Nassr?

CEO Guido Fienga has put Ronaldo’s responsibilities at Al Nassr to rest after they became the subject of heated controversy. Despite Ronaldo’s importance, Fienga emphasized that he does not have control over the team.

On Wednesday, Al Nassr made the shocking decision to dismiss Portuguese coach Luis Castro. Castro had a win-loss record in three league matches. The club’s swift appointment of Stefano Pioli, an Italian, as manager in Castro’s stead marked a change in strategy.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is our captain and he is the strongest player in the world, not just technically but in terms of his behaviour,” Fienga stated at a club event. “Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t control the club,” but he does motivate his teammates and set their sights on victories.

After leaving Manchester United in December 2022, Ronaldo, then 39 years old, signed Al Nassr. He has scored 62 goals since then, and he has taken the Saudi Pro League to one title—the Arab Club Champions Cup. Ronaldo’s intense response to May’s King’s Cup final loss by Al Hilal reveals his frustration despite his spectacular goal-scoring for Al Nassr.

According to Fienga, Ronaldo serves as a mentor to the team and helps them develop a winning mentality. “He has a winning mentality, and we seek his wisdom on how to dominate,” Fienga remarked. The CEO’s remarks demonstrate a strong commitment to the club’s performance and stability, underscoring the significance of Ronaldo while emphasizing the club’s broader ambition.

Al Nassr invested almost $100 million on new players this summer to bolster their club. “Step by step we will improve,” Fienga stated regarding consistency and stability, adding, “We need to work and give stability to the club to produce value, not destroy it every six months.”

Castro played in Al Nassr’s 1-1 draw with Al Shorta in the inaugural Asian Champions League, a match that Ronaldo was unable to attend because of illness. The club is hoping to make a comeback and achieve their season objectives with Pioli leading the charge.

All eyes will be on Ronaldo and Pioli as Al Nassr adjusts, and on how the new management plans to utilize Ronaldo’s expertise and leadership to improve the team.
