Is Mourinho leaving Fenerbahce for good?

Fenerbahce stated on Friday that they had fired head coach Jose Mourinho. This was because the team lost to Benfica in the UEFA Champions League, which ended his time with the team early.

The Portuguese manager, who is 62 years old, took over in July 2024 after leaving AS Roma. Fenerbahce fans were quite excited about his hiring because they hoped he could end Galatasaray’s recent domination in Turkey. When he got to Istanbul last summer, thousands of people greeted him.

The club said in a statement that Mourinho was leaving and thanked him for his work.

“We have let go of Jose Mourinho, who was the head coach of our professional A squad from the 2024–2025 season. Fenerbahce remarked, “We thank him for his work and wish him well in his future career.”

Fenerbahce had a rough start to the season, which made things even harder for Mourinho because of the high expectations.

Earlier this year, Galatasaray accused him of uttering racial comments during a heated derby match and threatened to take him to court. This made his time in office even more controversial.

Mourinho constantly complained about the team’s problems, and in recent press conferences, he seemed more and more dejected.

Fenerbahce won 37 games, tied 14, and lost 11 during his leadership in all competitions.
