Is Benjamin Sesko Joining Manchester United?

British media said on Tuesday that Manchester United had made an offer of little under £74 million (€85 million) for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

The offer is said to be an initial £65 million plus about £8.9 million in performance-related bonuses. Newcastle United are also in the running, but there are questions about striker Alexander Isak’s future after Liverpool, the Premier League champions, showed interest in him.

Reports say that Newcastle made an initial offer of about £65 million plus £4.3 million in extras, but Leipzig turned it down over the weekend. But on Monday night, the Magpies made another try with a better offer of at least £70 million.

British news reports say that Benjamin Sesko intends to play football at Old Trafford next season. But he doesn’t absolutely say no to the transfer to Newcastle either. The Slovenian international didn’t play in Leipzig’s friendly against Atalanta on Saturday, which was probably for the best.

Leipzig is considering offers from both Newcastle and United. At the same time, Sesko is still pondering what to do next.

Newcastle wants to finish the transaction in the next 48 hours, or they will look at other possibilities. Eddie Howe, the manager of the Magpies, thinks that Benjamin has what it takes to become a good striker and that he can help him get there.

Howe has done this previously, and the best example is Alexander Isak, who went from Real Sociedad in La Liga to Newcastle for £60m in 2022. The Magpies had Isak play 109 times and score 62 goals. The Swede only scored six goals in his last season with Real Sociedad before moving to Newcastle.
