Inter Milan Edge Bayern in Thriller

Following a spectacular 3-3 aggregate draw with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan confirmed their spot in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals by advancing thanks to their first-leg lead in front of a packed house at the San Siro.

The Italian champions arrived for the second match 2-1 ahead. But early in the second half, Bayern levelled the overall score with a crisp, low strike from Harry Kane. That equaliser only motivated Inter into action since Lautaro Martínez slammed home from close range only nine minutes later to give the home side a lead again.

Inter extended their advantage on the night Benjamin Pavard rose highest to meet Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s corner, so generating a header beyond the Bayern keeper and decisively tipping the tie in Inter’s advantage after the half.

Refusing to go down without a fight, Bayern grabbed one back through Eric Dier’s looping header in the 76th minute to set up a tight climax. Although experienced forward Thomas Müller’s header was deftly stopped by Inter custodian Yann Sommer, the visitors came agonisingly close to demanding extra time in the last seconds.

Late in the game, tensions erupted when Bayern replacement Josip Stanišić shoved a ballboy in despair as Inter attempted to run out the clock—an action he subsequently said was “a bit stupid.”

Inter stayed strong to schedule a high-stakes semifinal against Spanish powerhouse Barcelona, despite Bayern’s unrelenting push and a nervous last few minutes. The Nerazzurri now are just two games from a tilt towards European glory.

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi hailed his players and spoke emotionally to the supporters following the hard-fought triumph over a top-tier opponent.

“That evening before our supporters against a quite formidable team was fantastic. We had to play two outstanding games using all we had. The lads were outstanding; it was a triumph to share with the Interworld as whole. Let’s go forward in this season that is causing such a range of emotions. Bayern never cut the energy, but we answered blow for blow,” stated Inzaghi.
