Haaland Shines as Man City Crush Chelsea

Erling Haaland led Manchester City to a 3-1 win over Chelsea, advancing them into the Premier League top four. City overcame a poor start to Abdukodir Khusanov’s debut, as Noni Madueke scored the first goal. For Pep Guardiola’s team, Josko Gvardiol equalized before Haaland scored with his strength and brilliance 22 minutes from time.

The Norwegian then set up the in-form Phil Foden for City’s fourth win in five league games, up from just one in their previous nine. Since falling to sixth in the Premier League, Chelsea has only won one of their previous seven games. They may consider upgrading goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, whose location led to Haaland’s vital goal.

City’s win puts them in the running for next season’s Champions League, just days before they battle to stay in the competition. After losing 4-2 at Paris Saint-Germain after leading 2-0, the English champions must overcome Club Brugge on Wednesday to go to the playoffs.

“Emotionally, we recovered after conceding the goal,” remarked Guardiola. “It´s really, really important for our final Wednesday and for the next games.”

Guardiola made debuts for Khusanov and Marmoush. That decision backfired catastrophically on Khusanov inside three minutes.

Nicolas Jackson set up Madueke for a tap-in after the first Premier League Uzbek failed to head back towards his own goal. After chopping down Cole Palmer, Khusanov was lucky to only receive a yellow card.

Only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane had scored more Bundesliga goals than Marmoush before his £59 million ($72.6 million) move from Eintracht Frankfurt. He thought he had equalized when he scored after Sanchez parried Ilkay Gundogan’s shot, but was ruled offside.

“He showed something remarkable in the first half. Manchester City purchased him for that reason “Haaland on his new striker.

City faced a major threat from left-back Gvardiol’s constant attacks. Chelsea ignored a caution as the Croatian stormed into the area and prodded inches wide with his left foot.

His fifth Premier League goal of the season was easy for Gvardiol before halftime. After Matheus Nunes broke from full-back and Sanchez denied him, Gvardiol scored into an empty net.

The second period saw Guardiola trim his losses with Khusanov. After replacing him with John Stones, Manchester City rarely had defensive issues.

Marmoush nearly scored his first goal for City, with a shot wide from Haaland’s pass after Ederson’s long pass found him. Chelsea repeated their mistake. Erling Haaland outmuscled Trevoh Chalobah and chipped Sanchez, who had charged out of his goal and ended up in no man’s land, after another Ederson clearance.

“I think the second goal changed the mood,” stated Maresca. “We trust Robert for sure but in the same moment he is aware that he is making mistakes.”

Despite Manchester City’s problems, Haaland has been scoring, bringing his season total to 24, with six in the previous six games.

His layoff set up Foden to score his sixth goal in four league games for the third goal.
