Gundogan Leaves Manchester City for Galatasaray

The Turkish club Galatasaray said on Wednesday that Ilkay Gundogan had left Manchester City to join them on a two-year agreement.

The media say that his net wage for the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 seasons will be 4.5 million euros ($5.27 million). On Tuesday, Galatasaray said that they and City had agreed to let Gundogan go for free till the end of the 2026–2027 season.

Gundogan agreed that City would do better in the future, and he will keep an eye on them. He also said that they will always be in his heart.

Gundogan added, “I have no doubt that Manchester City will have a lot more success in the future. I will be watching from afar as I continue my career in Turkey, a country that means so much to me.”

“Manchester City will always be dear to me.” Winning the Premier League and FA Cup meant a lot to me, but being able to hold the Champions League trophy for the first time for this Club, especially in Istanbul, will be with me forever.

The midfielder has played 358 games for City over two stints and has had an amazing career, scoring 65 goals and won 14 trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League treble in 2023.

Gundogan joined the City squad from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, but he left for Barcelona in 2023. He went back to Manchester for the 2024–25 season and scored five goals and set up eight more in 54 games in all competitions.
