Gareth Taylor Fired as Man City Shake Up Before Final

Manchester City Women fired head coach Gareth Taylor five days before their League Cup final against Chelsea, the club said on Monday.

City managing director Charlotte O’Neill congratulated Taylor for his service but said performances had not been good enough, with the club fourth in the WSL, 12 points behind champions Chelsea.

“Manchester City prides itself on competing at the top of the WSL and on its outstanding record of qualifying for European competition,” O’Neill wrote in a note.

This season’s outcomes haven’t been as good.

“With six WSL games left, we think a change of management will boost our chances of qualifying for the 2025-26 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The City team would like to thank Gareth for his many years of service. This football club’s FA Cup and League Cup wins will always be special.

“We wish him all the best for the future.”

For the rest of the season, Nick Cushing will lead.
