Florian Wirtz Shines in Liverpool Win

Florian Wirtz scored his first goal as Liverpool beat J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos 3-1 at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama on Wednesday in a preseason friendly. After Asahi Uenaka gave Yokohama the lead early in the second half, Wirtz, Trey Nyoni, and Rio Ngumoha clinched the win for Liverpool.

Forward After joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69million ($92.1m), Hugo Ekitike wowed Arne Slot with his skills in his Reds debut. A daring back-heel in the 25th minute nearly put his team ahead. Pre-planned halftime swap to remove Ekitike. Slot then made adjustments midway through the second half.

The Reds also gave Mac Allister a chance to develop fitness for 2025/26. Alisson Becker was absent for personal reasons. Uenaka finished a beautiful play to give the host Japanese team the lead in the 55th minute. Wirtz scored emphatically from close range after Mohamed Salah’s right-wing effort gave Liverpool the chance.

Nyoni scored after completing Jeremie Frimpong’s cross to put the Reds ahead. Ngumoha, 16, scored a spectacular goal to extend the lead to 3-1 after a great second half.
