After losing to Argentina on penalties on Sunday in one of the most celebrated World Cup finals in history, the French squad checked out of their hotel and boarded a flight back to France.

When his team lost, 3-2 in overtime, coach Didier Deschamps called it “cruel” that they had to lose in such a way after fighting back twice to tie the score. Regarding his own future, he declined to respond immediately. FIFA president Gianni Infantino called this World Cup the “greatest ever.” Also, the final was the tournament’s climax.
It was reported that over 3.4 million people attended the 29-day event in Doha, Qatar. Thus, post-World Cup cleanup began and thousands of crowd barriers were removed from the city’s streets. FIFA reported that 88,966 spectators attended the final in Lusail. Approximately 3.5 million people watched the World Cup in the United States in 1994. In 2014, there were about 3.4 million Brazilian spectators.
According to the statement, more than a million spectators traveled to Qatar just for the games. Despite criticism of its human rights record, the Gulf state expected over a million tourists to visit in 2018.
The United States, Britain, Mexico, India, and Saudi Arabia were listed by FIFA as the top five countries sending fans to the tournament. The statement went on to say that 2022’s record-setting final goal total of six made it the highest-scoring World Cup ever. It surpassed the 171 goals scored in both 1998 and 2014.
“Also, attendance for the final match pushed the cumulative total for this FIFA World Cup over 3.4 million spectators. Plus, with an average attendance capacity of 96.3 percent,” the organisation said in a statement.
