Fernandes hopes Amorim can ‘transform the energy’ at Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes feels Ruben Amorim can “change the energy” at struggling Manchester United after he joined the Premier League team.

Amorim arrived at Carrington on Monday for discussions but cannot coach until his work visa is verified. After Erik ten Hag was fired, the 39-year-old led Sporting Lisbon to two crowns in four seasons and 11 wins in 11 league matches this season.

“Sometimes a person can change the energy of a space, if it’s the right moment,” Fernandes, who left Sporting for United before Amorim took charge, told MUTV.

“We hope he can come and bring his energy, talents, and football knowledge since he’s done something amazing at Sporting.

Fernandes hopes Amorim can 'transform the energy' at Man Utd.

“If someone doubts, look to the past. After 20 years without a league title, Sporting won it twice in four years with a young team in a time of change.”

Captain Fernandes said guiding United, who haven’t won the Premier League since 2013, would be different from Sporting.

“Obviously you can’t bring or transform what he has done at Sporting into here, because you have different players, you have different ways of play and everything,” said.

“I’m pretty sure that the idea of football he has, independent of the way he wants to play, is going to be a good one and it’s going to bring us success.”

Amorim is United’s sixth permanent manager since Alex Ferguson’s trophy-filled 27-year reign ended in 2013.

After a slow start, United sit 13th in the Premier League, four points behind the top four. After the international break, Amorim will oversee his first encounter at struggling Ipswich on November 24.
