Arsenal might face Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup. In their third-round ties, Arsenal must defeat Oxford, and City must beat Chelsea. Manchester United will play Reading, while Liverpool will go to Brighton if they win their replay against Wolves. Tottenham travels to Preston.
FA Cup fourth-round draw: Arsenal face Man City or Chelsea
If Arsenal defeats Oxford United on Monday night, they will face a daunting fourth-round FA Cup clash with either Manchester City or Chelsea. City host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon at the Etihad, and the winner will be at home on the weekend of January 28/29, with Arsenal the guests if they defeat League One Oxford.
The draw means that only one of City, Chelsea, or Arsenal, who have won the competition 11 times in the last 16 seasons, will advance to the fifth round. In other fourth-round action, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince, who won seven major trophies during a six-year stint with the club, will return to Old Trafford as Reading manager. At the same time, Liverpool will travel to Brighton if they win their replay at Wolves following a controversial draw at Anfield on Saturday.
Tottenham, who have not won the FA Cup since 1991 but may believe the draw has opened up given the City, Chelsea, and Arsenal pairings, meet Championship side Preston, while 2021 winners Leicester face League Two’s Walsall. Struggles in the Premier League Southampton will play at home against Blackpool, who smashed Nottingham Forest in the third round, while West Ham will travel to League One side Derby, who are unbeaten in 16 games. Aston Villa will go to Stoke if they win their third-round clash against Stevenage at home on Sunday, while Fulham will host Sunderland.
