Erling Haaland equals Premier League record

The sheer volume of goals scored by Erling Haaland this season makes the breaking of yet another record appear probable. The Norwegian scored twice in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday, tying Mo Salah’s record of 32 goals in a Premier League season throughout 38 games with eight games yet to go. He now needs two more goals to tie the record held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, which they established back when there were 42 games in a season in 1993–1994 and 1994–1995.

The 22-year-old scored his 45th goal of the season in all competitions just four days ago, becoming the all-time leading scorer in Premier League history. Current form leaders City have won 10 straight matches across all competitions, while league leaders Arsenal dropped a 2-2 draw to Liverpool last week.

The title will likely be decided in the April 26 matchup between these two clubs. The city is juggling the knockout stages of the Champions League and the FA Cup with the Premier League championship battle. The club is doing everything it can to keep Haaland fit for the crucial run of games after the season. Thanks to Haaland’s efforts on Saturday, City is now only three points behind league-leading Arsenal as the Premier League races towards its spectacular climax.

“I desire he breaks all the records possible, that means he scores a lot of goals which helps us,” City’s manager Pep Guardiola told the BBC. “I think he wants titles and we are still there but it is impressive and still eight games to play to break all of them.”

“We take care of him 24 hours (a day),” Guardiola told reporters Friday. “We have incredible doctors and physiotherapists; they are behind him every second of the day.

“Today,, with this demanding schedule of games every three or four days, we have to take care of them.

“It’s so demanding, with nutrition, rest, sleep, food… We know we have to watch him because he’s so big.”
