Eddie Howe on Isak’s Future: ‘Out of My Hands’

International media claimed on Tuesday that Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe said he can’t control Alexander Isak’s future at the club because the striker is linked with Liverpool.

Reports say that Isak is thinking about leaving Newcastle this summer, and Liverpool is the team most likely to sign the Swedish player. Newcastle has frequently said they don’t want to let the player go. He was dropped from Howe’s 30-man squad for the team’s pre-season tour of Asia because of a “minor thigh injury.”

Howe has said that Isak is still under contract with us, and we can’t control what happens to him in the future, but he wants the player to stay with the squad.

“We still have him as a player.” Howe told reporters in Seoul, South Korea, “He’s under contract with us.”

“We have some say in what happens next for him. I want to believe that we still have all of our options open. I want him to stay, but I can’t fully control that.

“We haven’t gotten a real offer for Alex from any team yet. I hope he remains and we see him play again next year.

Isak, who scored 27 goals in 42 games for the Magpies last season, was not in the squad for Newcastle’s pre-season friendly against Celtic, which they defeated 4-0.

Alexander Isak moved from Real Sociedad to Newcastle in 2022. He has three years left on his contract at St. James’ Park. In his three years at Newcastle, the 25-year-old has scored 62 goals and helped the team win the Carabao Cup and get into the Champions League last season.

Newcastle will finish their preseason tour of Asia with games against a K-League XI in Suwon, South Korea, on July 30 and Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong on August 3.
