Delap Names Key Influence Behind Chelsea Move

On Monday, Liam Delap said that Cole Palmer had a big impact on his choice to join Chelsea this summer. Chelsea recruited Delap from Ipswich Town to make their forward line stronger. The deal runs until 2031.

Delap chose to play with Palmer, a former teammate at Manchester City, instead of with many other prominent English clubs like Manchester United, Everton, and Newcastle United. Delap said that he talked to Palmer before joining Chelsea, and Palmer helped him make the choice.

“Yeah, I talked to him for a little. I asked him what I needed to know. He told me all I needed to know. Delap said, “I don’t like too much information.”

“I made the decision in the end, so I don’t want to think about it too much.” [I’ve known him] since I was 15 and we played together in the city. It was pleasant to see a familiar face because I get along with him well.

“There are a lot of things that play a role.” I get along well with the boss. I know what kind of player he is. I’ve been in this system previously. I know a lot of the players here and what the club wants to do in the future. That made me happy.

Palmer moved from City to Chelsea in the summer of 2023 and hasn’t looked back since. He is now one of the top talents in the Premier League. Delap also wants to do the same thing and build a name for himself in one of the best football leagues in the world.

“Of course, that’s the goal.” We both held similar positions, and he did a great job, so I hope I can do the same. I believe he’s always been that good, and everyone at City will tell you the same thing. It’s amazing how fast he’s done it. Delap said, “But I think it was always going to happen.”
