Chelsea, Spurs, and West Ham have “easier” Premier League starts than Newcastle United

The scheduler has not been kind to Newcastle United, but how do their first five Premier League games stack up against those of their rivals?

Chelsea, Spurs, and West Ham have “easier” Premier League starts than Newcastle United

After the Premier League schedule came out on Thursday morning, fans of Newcastle United are already making plans for the next season.

Eddie Howe’s team will start the season at home against Aston Villa, just like they did last year. Seven days later, they will travel to Manchester City to play the winners from last year.

The month of August will end with a home game against Liverpool. In early September, United will play away at Brighton and Hove Albion and at home against Brentford on either side of an international break.

The scheduler has not been kind to the Magpies. In each of their first five games, they meet a team that finished in the top half of the Premier League table last season, and four of those games are against teams that finished in a European spot.

Based on the Opta Power Ranking, which is used to figure out how hard each club’s first five games are, the Magpies have the hardest start in the Premier League.

This season, United’s league opponents include triple winners Manchester City, who are ranked as the best team in the world, and Luton Town, who just joined the Premier League and are ranked as the 309th best team in the league.
