Chelsea Signs Liam Delap in £30m Deal

On Wednesday, Chelsea said they had signed English striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town until 2031 to make their attacking line stronger.

Sources say the purchase is done for £30 million. Many of the best English clubs, like as Manchester United, Everton, and Newcastle United, were also interested in the 22-year-old. However, Delap preferred to play with Cole Palmer, a former colleague at Manchester City.

Reports say that Delap was waiting to see what happened in United’s Europa League final versus Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao, which affected his choice.

If United had won the Europa League final, they would have been in the Champions League next season. But because they lost, they won’t be in any European competitions next season. Sources say that this fact pushed Delap toward Chelsea.

Chelsea made the announcement of the striker’s acquisition in a statement. He scored 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances for Ipswich in the 2024-25 season, but his efforts were in vain because the club was relegated. Chelsea said, “Chelsea is happy to announce the transfer of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. The striker has signed a contract until 2031.”

The club said, “Delap, who played for England’s Under-21 team, scored 12 goals in the Premier League during the 2024/25 season and was nominated for Young Player of the Year.”

Delap thought about his choice and said he knows how important the club is and wants to reach new heights.

Delap added, “I know how important this club is and I can see where it’s going with these players and the head coach.” He ended by saying, “It’s going to be a great place for me to grow, and I hope to do great things here and help the club win more trophies.”
