ChatGPT’s Ballon d’Or Prediction?

Real Madrid has abruptly canceled its delegation’s attendance at the Ballon d’Or presentation in Paris on Monday because Vinicius Jr. will not win, soccer sources informed Reuters.

Vinicius Jr., 24, the Champions League player of the year, was the heavy favorite to win his first Ballon d’Or, ahead of Manchester City’s Spain midfielder Rodri, 28, and Real’s England international Jude Bellingham.

Vinicius Jr. and 21-year-old Bellingham helped Real win the Champions League and LaLiga last season. Bellingham was voted LaLiga MVP after scoring a career-best 19 goals in his debut and helping England reach the Euro 2024 final.

Pep Guardiola called Rodri “the best midfielder in the world” after he helped his team win an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League trophy last season. He was named best player at this year’s European Championship after Spain won a record fourth title.

Real and France Football, which organizes the Ballon d’Or, declined comment.

A group of journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries votes for the awards.

Meanwhile, an international sports website requested OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot to predict this year’s Ballon d’Or winner.

Artificial intelligence cannot forecast the future, but its huge database and updated knowledge allow it to produce realistic results.

The ChatGPT highlights Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior as candidates for this honour. However, ChatGPT strongly predicted that Rodri Hernández would win the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

AI cited the English midfielder’s outstanding season and rapid effect since joining Real Madrid to justify its choice. The sports magazine also asked AI “Who Deserves to Win the Ballon d’Or 2024?” ChatGPT identified Rodri as the deserving Ballon d’Or 2024 winner according to this prompt, but it admitted that voters will likely choose someone else.
