Brentford Edge Man United 4-3 in Seven-Goal Thriller

With an exciting 4-3 triumph in a Premier League game at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, Brentford passed Manchester United.

Mason Mount led United early, but the hosts answered fast. A Luke Shaw own goal brought Brentford level; before Kevin Schade’s header put the Bees ahead before the break. Striking once again following the intermission, the German winger became the third Brentford player this season to score double figures in league goals.

When play continued after defender Matthijs de Ligt went down injured during the build-up to Brentford’s third goal, United became irate.

Heading home from close range following a beautiful cross by Bryan Mbeumo, Schade doubled his tally 20 minutes from time, perhaps stretching the game outside United’s reach.

Brentford still had work to do, though. Michael Kayode deftly passed through United’s defense to Yoane Wissa, who coolly sloted in Brentford’s fourth goal with a flowing attacking action.

United manager Rúben Amorim voiced worries about De Ligt’s injury when speaking with Sky Sports following the game.

“I truly am worried, not about Thursday. The Portuguese coach added, “We took off Luke Shaw at halftime to protect him and have players fit for Thursday; but, I’m more concerned whether De Ligt’s injury is minor or severe, especially looking ahead to next season.”

The fight for European qualifying is still wide open even if the campaign only has one month left. Depending on the results of the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, and the Premier League itself, up to ten English teams might land European places.
