Brendan Rodgers’ side restores 13-point lead

Celtic beat Dundee 6-0 at home to reclaim their 13-point lead in the Scottish Premiership. The Hoops rarely left second gear in the first half, but Arne Engel’s penalty and Adam Idah’s goal before halftime stretched their lead to two. After being given a start after his goal against Motherwell, Jota showed why signing him from Rennes was so exciting for the club.

His brilliant cross set up Daizen Maeda for his first goal of the night, and the 27-year-old hoisted the ball over Trevor Carson’s head for a second three minutes after the break.

Two long-range goals from Engels and substitute Nicolas Kuhn completed Celtic’s resounding win, allowing Jeffrey Schlupp to make his debut with Dundee out of reach. From minute one, it was there. Great players. Game energy and attitude.

They played the system well. Our objectives were great. Playing Sunday and Wednesday made me happy. Team hunger was impressive.

“I claimed they caught us out a few weeks ago, but our defense was great. We searched in numbers and impressed.”

Rodgers chose his goal of the night: “Daez’s finish. Beautiful finish. Trevor Carson could do nothing about our ambitions.”
