Brazil Thrash Chile in FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers

On Thursday, Brazil won a World Cup qualifier in Rio de Janeiro 3-0 as Estevao, Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes scored a goal each.

The world champions began by playing on the attack with the on-target header of midfielder Casemiro disallowed due to offside. At the 38th minute, Teenager Estevao gave Brazil the lead on a goal. The Chelsea wing scored the first goal in his national team by shooting the ball when he was close.

The first half went in favor of Brazil, as they went into the second half leading 1-0. Guillermo Maripan, a Chile defender was sent a red card early in the second half, however, it was reduced to yellow after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

Paqueta, a midfielder, entered the field at 71 minutes and it took him only one minute to score again (Brazil) when given a chance by Luiz Henrique.

The midfielder has only scored two days after the Football Association affirmed it would not retract the ruling to clear Paqueta of spot-fixing charges. Brazil sealed the win when Newcastle midfielder Guimaraes headed the ball in the air and over the line following a shot by Henrique off the bar.

The side coached by Carlo Ancelotti has been very impressive in the qualifiers, having already secured their place in the tournament in the coming year, but the win helped them to gain a better position on the table, since they have moved to second place, with one more match ahead.

Argentina topped the table with 38 points after defeating Venezuela 3-0 in Buenos Aires and Brazil are at second position with 10 points behind the Lionel Messi team and one point ahead of Uruguay who defeated Venezuela 3-0 in Buenos Aires.

On Tuesday Brazil will play Bolivia in their last qualifier in El Alto.
