Bounou’s Penalty Saves Secure Draw for Al Hilal

In the second half of stoppage time, Yassine Bounou blocked Federico Valverde’s penalty kick. Al Hilal and Real Madrid played to a 1-1 tie in the Club World Cup Group H match at Hard Rock Stadium on Wednesday.

At the 34-minute mark, Gonzalo Garcia scored the first goal for Madrid after lifting the ball over Bounou after Rodrygo made a great pass. The Saudi Pro League team had most of the ball and made a lot of chances early on.

Simone Inzaghi, who used to manage Inter Milan, was making his debut for Al-Hilal. His team tied the game when midfielder Ruben Neves scored a penalty after Madrid defender Raul Asencio hauled back Marcos Leonardo in the box.

After a visual assistance referee (VAR) review, Madrid was given a penalty in the second minute of stoppage time because Al-Hilal’s Mohammad Alqahtani fouled Fran Garcia in the box.

Valverde took the penalty, but Bounou blocked it with a low shot that went to his right to maintain the score level. This was the first game for both clubs in Group H. FC Red Bull Salzburg beat Mexico’s CF Pachuca 2-1 thanks to a 76th-minute header from substitute Karim Onisiwo.

Oscar Gloukh put the Austrians ahead 1-0 in the 42nd minute, but Bryan González of Puchuca equalised 14 minutes later. Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao each scored twice for Italian team Juventus, which beat Emirati club Al-Ain 5-0.
