Bernardo Silva Named Manchester City Captain

After Kevin De Bruyne left, Pep Guardiola picked Bernardo Silva to be Manchester City’s new captain.

Guardiola usually allows players and staff vote on who should be the captain, so it’s strange that he chose Silva personally. Silva is now the captain because he said he would stay with the team for the 2025–26 season.

People have been talking about the 30-year-old’s future at City because his contract ends in June 2026. Silva said he will stay at City this year and that now is not the time to talk about the future.

“I know what I’m going to do, but now is not the time to talk about it. I am very focused on my season. I really want to do well for Man City. Silva replied, “I will talk about it when the time is right.”

“I have a year left on my contract, so I can leave next season.” He said, “I’ve had options in the past, like last year, and this year my option is to stay at Man City.”

Guardiola has said that he chose the leader this season, which is not something that happens very often. Kyle Walker was chosen captain last year. Walker, who went on loan to Milan in January, is not in City’s team for the Club World Cup.

Guardiola noted that this was the first time in his history as a manager that he chose the captain himself.

Guardiola said, “I’m the manager this season, and for the first time in my career, I chose my captain.”

“I didn’t like what happened last season.” I made my choice this season.

“Sometimes I want to be the boss, and this season I decided to do it. I picked the four captains, and at the end of this World Cup, we might pick one or two more.”
