Barcelona’s Yamal Out for Atletico Showdown

Barcelona announced on Monday that winger Lamine Yamal suffered an ankle injury in the weekend loss to Leganes and will miss three to four weeks, ruling him out of a top-of-the-stack encounter with Atletico Madrid.

Yamal, part of Spain’s Euro 2024 winning team, left with 15 minutes left in Saturday’s 1-0 loss at home to Leganes due to a right ankle injury, according to the club.

“Tests carried out this morning have shown a grade one injury to the anterior tibiofibular ligament,” the club announced.

“The player is expected to be out for three to four weeks.”

Yamal missed three games last month with another ankle injury, and he may miss Barca’s crucial league game against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, the Copa del Rey at Barbastro, and the Spanish Super Cup in January.

Barcelona’s loss left them in LaLiga’s top spot, with Atletico tied on 38 points with one less game played and Real Madrid a point behind with a game in hand.
