Barcelona offer €10 million midfield enforcer 2+1 contract, player accepts

Barcelona wants to sign a new pivot midfielder before preseason starts next week. Oriol Romeu is at the top of the club’s list of players they want to sign. Romeu is waiting for Barcelona and Girona to finish their talks so that he can move back to the team he played for as a kid this summer.

The report says that the Blaugrana are giving the 31-year-old La Liga enforcer a contract with the same length as Ilkay Gundogan’s, which is two years with an option for a third. And Romeu would gladly agree to that plan. The midfielder knows that the Catalan team is interested and has a first offer that they are ready to accept. Barcelona will now try to reach a deal with Girona about Romeu’s move since they are likely to be able to agree on the player.

The Southampton midfielder is thought to have a release clause in his current deal worth €10 million. Barca, on the other hand, wants to get that price down even more, maybe by half, by giving Girona a young player in return. People at Montilivi like the name Estanis Pedrola, and he is expected to leave Barcelona this summer.

He might end up being involved in the deal, but nothing is set in stone about that part of the plan yet. There is no doubt that Barcelona wants Romeu. The technical staff has given the plan the green light, and the club thinks it is possible.

But the new director, Deco, wants to see if there are any other choices on the market before making a decision. Xavi wants the deal to be done before preseason so that the former La Masia star can get to know his new peers.
