Aston Villa Signs Marcus Rashford on Loan

Marcus Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the season, concluding his spell at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.

Rashford, a United fan favourite, has not played since December 12 and claimed earlier this season he was ready for a “new challenge”. AC Milan and Barcelona were hesitant to sign the 27-year-old due to his reputed £300,000-a-week ($372,000) wage.

According to Sky Sports, Villa will receive at least 75% of the compensation packet for the following few months, or up to 90% based on performance bonuses. At the end of the season, the deal can be extended for £40 million to make it permanent.

“I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the manager´s ambitions,” Rashford wrote in a Villa blog post.

“I am excited to begin playing football because I want to do it. My best to Manchester United as they continue the season.

On Friday, Al Nassr paid a staggering A£64 million to acquire Colombian striker Jhon Duran, bolstering Aston Villa’s attack. After making it to the round of 16, Unai Emery’s squad will look to repeat as Champions League qualifiers the following year.

United is in thirteenth place in the Premier League, whereas Villa is in eighth, eight points ahead of them. Manchester United have won four trophies—the Europa League, two FA Cups, and two League Cups—thanks to Marcus Rashford, who has played in 426 games and scored 138 goals.

After assuming control in November, Amorim began to doubt his training philosophy and approach. The 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital was supposedly picked over Rashford by the Portuguese coach following last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Fulham.

“Our team should be so much better with Rashford, but he must change,” Amorim commented last week.

We can bring in Rashford, who is essential, if he makes a change.

We clearly need to set standards at this time. Everything is finished. After his unexpected tumble, Rashford can get a fresh start at Villa and try to restore his reputation. He hit a career-best 30 goals for England in the 2022–23 World Cup. But in 24 games this season, he scored seven goals, down from eight in the previous campaign.
