Arteta Signals Openness to Contract Extension

Although his current contract expires in 2027, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that he may decide to stay at the North London club that he joined in 2019, but he has emphasised on performance on the pitch to shape his future.

Without mentioning the upcoming Premier League match of Arsenal against Everton, Arteta claims that he needs to be judged to stay in the job and that he thinks the bottom line should be the outcomes and the trophies which are the ultimate testament to the success of any manager. On Saturday, the Spaniard will have six years of leadership at Arsenal after replacing the job in December 2019.

In 2020, Arteta won the FA Cup, which was his first significant achievement with Arsenal. This has been curtailed with silverware though as although Arsenal has become a regular title contender. The Gunners have been second in the past three seasons of the premier league and this season are two points ahead of the top of the table.

Questioned directly about whether he would like to continue with the club after 2027, Arteta replied that he was open to it but he was reserved. Yes but it is today, said he, and great steps must be taken during the next few months before the extension can be justified.

Although no trophies have been won in recent times, Arteta did defend the performance of his team pointing to record-breaking results under his leadership. He claimed that Arsenal is performing at a historic rate in a competitive world that is getting tougher in the Premier League.

Arteta said, look at the performances, all the records we had which were broken in the history of the club. That informs you of the kind of place we are at.

With Arsenal still driving towards the title, the future of Arteta seems to strongly rest on the possibility of good performances finally turning into big prizes.
