Arsenal Sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP

International news outlets said on Friday that Premier League team Arsenal is about to finish signing striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP this weekend.

The contract would put an end to a long-running rumour about a transfer, and Gyokeres will have a medical exam on Saturday. Reports say that the Gunners and the Sweden international agreed on a cost of €73 million ($86 million).

The striker’s move was put off for a while since both teams were still working out the details of the contract’s add-ons.

Finally, the transaction will be done this week. His old club agreed to the first payment of about €63 million, plus a further €10 million in add-ons.

Gyokeres will wear the number 14 shirt, which is famous because it was worn by Thierry Henry, the club’s all-time leading goal scorer. In only 66 games for Sporting CP, the striker has scored 68 league goals.

In early July, the British press said that the clubs had agreed on an agreement in principle, but there were still problems with the details of the possible add-ons. Those worries have been worked out now.

Gyokeres just wanted to join Arsenal, and even if other clubs showed interest late in the process, he didn’t think about joining another team. The Swedish player’s agent also gave up his commission to help with the move, and the player will sign a five-year deal.

Once Sporting and Gyokeres reached a final agreement, the transfer was set to move quickly because Gyokeres had previously agreed to personal terms and a five-year contract with Arsenal.

Andrea Berta, the new sporting director at Arsenal, has been busy in the club’s first summer transfer window.
