Arsenal Knock Out Real Madrid in UCL Clash

After an early penalty miss, Bukayo Saka redeemed himself by scoring the opener as Arsenal guaranteed their spot in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, so completing a 5-1 aggregate triumph to end their 16-year wait for a last-four visit at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Arsenal came into the second match with a comfortable 3-0 lead following the first leg. After earlier failing to convert from the spot, Saka broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, putting the Gunners ahead of a closely fought first half ended goalless.

Real Madrid answered quickly, Vinícus Júnior using a defensive slip to equal the score. But Gabriel Martinelli struck in stoppage time to guarantee a 2-1 victory on the evening and highlight Arsenal’s supremacy across both legs.

This is only the third time Arsenal has made it to the Champions League semi-finals, eliminating the 15-time European champions—who looked second-best all through the tie.

Given the ailments afflicting Arsenal, manager Mikel Arteta hailed his team’s tenacity and integrity.

“I probably haven’t felt prouder of my players than tonight – not just reaching the semi-finals, but considering the circumstances, the number of injuries we have had, how we performed, and how we managed the game,” said Arteta.

“Rice was great; his calm, leadership, and way he turned the game in our advantage. At this level, you need a player of that kind. Bukayo stood up today, he said.

Now Arsenal will play Paris Saint-Germain, who overcame Aston Villa, in the first leg of the semi-final on April 30 at the Emirates Stadium in London.
