Arne Slot Talks About Isak’s Liverpool Debut

Arne Slot talks about Alexander Isak’s first game for Liverpool on Sunday, after he moved from Newcastle United. Isak was not in the team that played Burnley.

Isak transferred from Newcastle to Liverpool on a long-term agreement on the last day of the summer transfer season. This was the end of one of the longest transfer tales of the summer.

The Magpies agreed to a British record £125 million ($170 million) offer for the Sweden international on September 1. They later said no to an offer of £110 million plus more.

Sky Sports has now spoken to Liverpool manager Slot about why he didn’t give him a chance against Burnley.

“No, not today,” Slot said.

“Everyone knew he hadn’t practiced with the team at Newcastle.” He then went to play for the Swedish national team, where he only played for 15 to 20 minutes.

Slot also suggested that Isak might make his Liverpool debut against Atletico Madrid in a Champions League match at Anfield.

“We think this is the best way for him to get ready to play against Atletico Madrid in a week when we have three games in seven days,” Slot said.

Arne Slot said that it’s always impossible to say when Isak would be able to play consistently, and he didn’t give a clear answer.

“It’s hard to say.” Liverpool’s coach said, “What I can say is that usually in the preseason, after one or two weeks, you play your first 45–60 minutes and then build up from there.”

“But we don’t get to work with the team too often right now because we have three games in seven days.

“I would say he’s in the same place he would be in the second or third week of pre-season, so he should be able to play for 45 minutes or more during the week.”

“But we play Everton two days later, so it will be interesting for the performance staff and for us to get the best out of him at first and then keep him available until the end.”

In 2022, Alexander Isak moved from Real Sociedad in La Liga to Newcastle for £60 million. Last season, he scored 27 goals in 42 games in all competitions.
