The preparation of Argentina to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup is actually assuming a more concrete form as the most important matches, stadiums, and itineraries are slowly being finalized. As Lionel Messi is likely to be the head of the team again, the Argentine Football Association is working on reducing the amount of traveling and increasing the competitive exposure as much as possible.
The Albiceleste will kick off their next cycle in March, with a high profile Finalissima match against Spain in the Lusail Iconic Stadium at Doha, on March 27. Reports indicate that Argentina will continue to stay in Qatar to play a second friendly against the host country either on March 30 or 31 and make the visit a mini training block in the Middle East.
June will be a particularly important one. As part of the FIFA window of June 1-9, Argentina will conduct 2 friendlies in the US. It is reported to have a clash with Mexico in Las Vegas, and then a game against Honduras in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. These fixtures are perceived to be perfect warm-ups before the increased 48-team world cup.
The friendlies will be followed by Argentina travelling to Kansas City where they will likely make the group stage base. They have a World Cup opening match with Algeria on June 16.
