Amorim Justifies Rashford’s Absence Against Fulham

Ruben Amorim said he would rather have a custodian coach on the bench than Marcus Rashford in Sunday’s 1-0 win against Fulham.

After admitting he was ready for a fresh challenge in his career, Rashford has not played for United since mid-December. He was not in the team’s travelling party for Sunday’s narrow Premier League win. Even though his team is struggling under Amorim, he has always insisted on full effort from his players.

“It’s always the same reason,” Ruben Amorim told reporters about Marcus Rashford’s latest absence. “We train the way I think a footballer should.

“Every day, every detail, in training and life. So I won’t change unless things change. Every gamer faces the same issue. We can use every player if you do your best.”

“You can see it today on the bench—we miss a little pace to go, change the game, and shift components, but I enjoy it. Goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital will be put before a player who doesn’t give his all every day. I won’t change.”

Before his 40th birthday, Amorim quipped that he feels 10 years older following a tough first two months with the club.

United got three points at Craven Cottage thanks to luck. Visitors’ lone chance on target was Lisandro Martinez’s late deflection winner in a dismal match.

Since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November, Amorim has only won four league games, with the 20-time top flight champions currently suffering in mid-table.

“It’s not 40… I’m 50!” The BBC questioned Amorim if the Fulham triumph was the perfect birthday present.

“50 after two months at Manchester United. I’m honoured to celebrate my 40th birthday here.

The thrill of winning and three points is crucial. The team hasn’t improved much. Wins help us better.”
