Alexander-Arnold’s Late Goal Lifts Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late winner in a 1-0 triumph at King Power Stadium secured Leicester City’s relegation and sent Liverpool one step closer to winning the Premier League title.

With two post strikes in the first two minutes, Mohamed Salah stood out in the opening minutes. Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester also came near, low-drive rattling against the woodwork. The first half finished goalless even although both sides generated opportunities.

Salah’s attempt barely missed the target as Dominik Szoboszlai, Luis Diaz, and Konstantinos Tsimikas all tested Leicester’s defence. Although Conor Coady believed he had given Leicester the lead, his goal was denied upon Patson Daka’s alleged pushing of Liverpool custodian Alisson Becker.

Introduced from the bench, Alexander-Arnold broke the impasse at last. In the 76th minute, the 26-year-old produced an amazing half-volley that drove Liverpool nearer the championship.

Liverpool has five games left and is currently just three points away from the Premier League crown with this triumph.

Their next game’s outcome will mathematically ensure the title. Arne Slot’s team will, however, have an unblemished lead at the top of the table should second-placed Arsenal lose at Crystal Palace on Thursday.

With their 23rd loss in 33 league games, Leicester clinched their demotion. Fighting for promotion in the Championship following season will now provide a difficulty.

Despite the loss, Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy expressed satisfaction in his team’s performance: “I believe we gave it our all. It was an energetic performance. We were part of the game.

Alexander-Arnold's Late Goal Lifts Liverpool

“Of course, Liverpool was the dominant team and generated more chances; yet, we had our shot on the post and that disallowed goal, which I have also seen given as well. It was quite close. But the stands with the audience’s backing revealed the attitude and performance of this team. I have to admit, I’m glad of this,” he said.

On Sunday at Anfield, Liverpool will next play Tottenham Hotspur; a triumph here might confirm their Premier League title.
