Tottenham Receive Big Boost Before Europa League Final

Aiming to replicate his old strike partner Harry Kane and earn his first career prize, Son Heung-min is on track to be fit for Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League final against Manchester United next week.

Kane departed Tottenham in 2023 as the record goalscorer but without any clear reward; he only broke his duck this season as Bayern Munich was named Bundesliga champions.

Having built a lethal alliance with Kane for the best of a decade at Tottenham, the 32-year-old Son has been suffering with a foot ailment but trained on Monday having also managed minutes off the bench against Crystal Palace the day before.

“It comes down to getting him ready to play and then making a decision,” Postecoglou told Monday’s club training ground reporters. “It is nothing more than that.

“One thing I know about finals is there are always moments and individuals who can change it, but it will take group effort. What we accomplish as a team will be far more crucial on the day than anything else.

There are parallels between Kane and England striker who was rushed back for the Champions League final in 2019 following an ankle injury looked rusty and had minimal impact.

Only Son and Ben Davies remain from that team; if Son is firing on all cylinders, it would be a huge advantage as Tottenham seeks to break a 17-year trophy drought.

With 173 goals, he is fifth on the all-time scoring list for the club and serves as a team motivator, Postecoglou stated.

“We have sort of eight or nine days to go and a game on Friday where we can build him up,” Postecoglou remarked.

“He’s been a big catalyst this year and understands probably better than most what a trophy would mean for this football club and for him personally since he’s had an unbelievable career here in which he’s done just about everything except the key bit, that silverware every player craves.”
